Eolto (the name of the Hwacheon summer festival characters)
The outdoor activity-based faestival, named 'Hwacheon Jjokbae water festival' has just started, reproducing the images of boats carrying salts since Koryo Dynasty(918-1392 AD), until the end of August.
The word 'Jjokbae' means a raft that has no limit on the size or design, which carry up to 5 people maximum.
According to Hwacheon's authority, this festival has more 30 exciting programs such as Jjokbae Bulding Contest, Valley hiking, Farm-stay for families.
And they said 'the background of this festival is to remember the fact that there was a water route between Incheon and Hwacheon during Koryo Dynasty'
화천군의 名物쪽배 축제가 시작되었다.
오는 8월말까지 계속되는 이 축제는 高麗시대때 인천과 화천간의 소금을 물길 운송하던 쪽배를 재조명하려는 것.
화천군에 따르면, 이 축제에는 쪽배 리프팅 대회이외에도, 쪽배만들기, 계곡 하이킹, 가족체험農場 등 30여개의 다양한 프로그램을 가지고 있다.
