The 2nd South-North Korean summit will realize the spirit of the June 15, 2000 South-North Joint Declaration and make a substantial contribution to efforts by South and North Korea to enter an era of peace and prosperity in earnest.

As progress in implementing the September 19, 2005 Joint Statement and February 13, 2007 agreement enter the fulfillment stage, the second South-North Korean summit will be able to not only help resolve the North Korean nuclear issue and but also enhance inter-Korean ties.

Especially, the second South-North Korean summit is significant because the leaders of the two Koreas will be able to take extensive trust-building measures in military affairs and pave the way for the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula through openly discussing the issue.

In addition, the second South-North Korean summit will provide a firm foundation for embodying a new South and North vision of the Korean Peninsula by expanding the quantity and quality of economic cooperation and exchanges, so that the next administration can continue the win-win basis for reconciliation and cooperation.

The South Korean Government firmly believes that the second South-North Korean summit will be able to provide the foundation for regular inter-Korean summits and help the two Koreas make sustainable progress in peace-building and the stabilization of inter-Korean relations in the future.

이번에 성사된 제 2차 남북정상회담은 역사적으로 매우 중요한 의미를 가진다.

이번 제2차 남북정상회담의 첫 번째 역사적 의의는 지난 2000년 6월15일에 있었던 제1차 남북정상회담의 선언이었던 ‘공동번영과 평화’라는 精神을 계승하고 있다는 점이다.

특히 이번 2차 남북정상회담을 통해, 두 정상은 互相신뢰를 바탕으로 한반도의 긴장완화는 물론 공동번영과 평화를 위한 歷史的 이정표를 세우게 된다.

두 번째로 남과북은 이번 정상회담을 통해 量과 質적인 차원에서 한층 업데이트된 남.북간의 경제활동 채널 마련을 통해 앞으로 남과북이 서로 Win-Win 차원에서 관계를 지속시켜 갈 수 있다는 점이다.

마지막으로 이번 정상회담은 남과북이 Inter Korean Summit의 기초를 다지는 세계사적 의미도 부여할 뿐 아니라, 한반도에서의 영원한 평화정착의 관문으로 기억될 것이다.
