Minister Song Min-soon will visit the United States and Canada from November 5 to 9 to have the ROK-U.S. and ROK-Canada foreign ministers’ meeting, respectively.
According to MOFAT, In his meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on November 7, Minister Song will discuss matters of mutual concern including ways to promote bilateral cooperation for the progress at the Six-party Talks, situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, and major global issues. Minister Song will also have wide range of discussions with main figures of the U.S. on matters of mutual interest including ways to promote the ROK-U.S. bilateral relations.
'While paying an official visit to Canada from November 6 to 7, Minister Song will meet with his Canadian counterpart Maxime Bernier in Ottawa and discuss pending issues between Korea and Canada such as the ROK-Canada Free Trade Agreement and our bid to host the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu' said MOFAT.
And they added 'Minister Song will also discuss matters of mutual concern including situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, and the international security. This will be the first official visit to Canada by a Korean foreign minister since the one by former minister Han Sung-joo in 1994'
Meanwhile, Minister Song will visit Boston on November 5 and deliver a speech at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum in Harvard University titled “Northeast Asia and the ROK-U.S. Alliance: Why the Alliance is Vital for the Region and the U.S.”
And MOFAT said 'He will also attend an informal meeting titled “ROK-U.S. Alliance in the 21st Century” in Washington D.C. to be held on November 9 and explain the future of the ROK-U.S. alliance, denuclearizing and establishing a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, and the strategic cooperation and roles of both countries for the peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia'
