Korea will provide Kenya with $200,000 in cash aid to help alleviate the African nation’s humanitarian crisis following last month’s disputed presidential elections, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
The decision is a response to the U.N.’s appeal for more emergency funds for Kenya, ministry spokesman Cho Hee-yong said, adding the cash aid will be delivered through the World Food Program and U.N. Department of Humanitarian Affairs.
Seoul already offered $100,000 to UNICEF’s branch in Kenya earlier this month.
“Korea will continue to expand its contribution to the international community in helping respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises," Cho said.
