대만정부가 부패와의 전쟁을 선언하고 나서 화제가 되고 있다.

마잉주 대만 총통은 최근 홍콩에 기반을 둔 부패지수 조사기관인 PERC가 대만관리가 오히려 중국보다 더 부패하다는 보고서를 보고 격노, 이같은 조치를 취했다.

18일 타이완 저널에 따르면, 1,700여명의 설문조사를 바탕으로한 이 조사는 미국을 포함 아세아 14개국의 부패청렴도를 발표했는데 대만이 오히려 중국보다 부패지수가 심한 것으로 발표했다는 것.

마 총통은 ‘대만은 청렴한 중국 윤리사상을 기반으로 건설된 민주국가임을 감안한다면 도저히 용납될 수 없는 일’ 이라며 ‘지금부터라도 이는 대만의 명예가 걸린 일인 만큼, 최선을 다해 부패척결에 앞장설것’이라며 부패와의 전쟁을 공식 선언했다.

특히 마 총통은 지난 민진당 집권당시, 군부와 정부 고위인사들이 부패 쪽에 많이 관련 되었다는 보고에 주목을 하고 있다고 타이완 저널은 전했다.

According to Taiwan Journal on April 18, President Ma Ying-jeou reaffirmed his determination to stamp out corruption in Taiwan because of a report that Taiwan was more corrupt than mainland China.

“Taiwan is highly regarded in the ethnic Chinese community for its democratic achievements,” Ma said. “The national shame brought about by corruption is unacceptable and something I personally despise.”he added.

The president’s statement came in response to the March results of an annual corruption survey from the Hong Kong-based Political and Economic Risk Consultancy/PERC

They said, among the 14 Asian economies reviewed, plus Australia and the United States, Taiwan’s level of corruption was ranked above that of the mainland’s.

Meanwhile The consultancy’s findings are based on more than 1,700 responses from expatriate business executives.

Especially Ma noted that a series of corruption scandals involving high-ranking military officers and government officials occurred under the former Democratic Progressive Party administration. “These have caused enormous harm to government’s reputation,” Ma said, adding his administration was committed to clamping down on corruption.
