Taiwan is moving to participate APEC world, especially Singapore and China, more actively, stating the importance of economical ties in Asian countries, said Taipei Mission to Korea on Nov 10.
According to them, Taiwan's President Mastressed the importance of regional trade. He said the percentage of trade volume from among nations and territories within the Asian region has expanded from 37 percent of the area’s total trade volume to 57 percent in more than two decades.

Eight years ago, only three free trade agreements existed amongst nations within the Asian region. Now there are 56 FTAs, Ma noted.
As a result, Ma noted that Taiwan has to act fast. This year India has already signed FTAs with South Korea and the Association of South East Asian Nations, a sign that the integration of the entire region is happening very rapidly.
“Taiwan cannot fall behind. It has no choice but to move forward quickly,” Ma pointed out.

특히 한국, ASEAN이 발빠르게 인도와 FTA를 맺은것을 언급하며“대만도 뒤쳐질 수 없으며 빠르게 전진하는 것 밖에는 선택의 여지가 없다”고 강조했다.
한편, 이러한 마 총통의 언급에 대해 렌쟌 대만대표단 단장은 “APEC정상들이 대만의 목소리에 귀를 기울일 것”이라며 “특히 금융위기, 지진, 태풍, 에너지 효율과 식량부족을 포함한 몇 가지 이슈는 포럼에서 검토될 필요가 있으며, 이 문제에 대한 대만의 연구성과를 APEC국가들과 공유할 것”이라고 언급했다.
