U.S reconfirmed that Taiwan has a right to negotiate FTA with other countries.
David B. Shear, U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, saidlast weekthat Taiwan has the right to negotiate free trade agreements.
And affirmed improving cross-strait relations and Taiwan’s role in international affairs.
“Under World Trade Organization rules, any WTO member is free to negotiate trade agreements with other members as long as WTO standards are met, and we believe that Taiwan should be able to do that,” Shear said.
"However, the United States has no plans to begin talks with Taiwan about an FTA at this time,” Shear added.

" WTO 회원국은 규정내에서 모든 나라와 자유롭게 FTA를 맺을 수 있다 "고 말한 그는, 그러나 현재 미국은 대만과 FTA협상을 고려하고 있지는 않다고 밝혔다.
