외교부에 따르면,양 차관은 신정부 출범을 계기로 한·일 관계를 상호 존중과 이해를 바탕으로 하는 성숙한 동반자 관계로 발전시켜 나가기로 의견을 같이하고, 구체 방안으로서 정상간 교류의 활성화, 고위급 교류의 제도화 및 경제·문화·인적교류 확대 등을 위해 더욱 긴밀히 노력해 나가기로 하였다.
또 중단된 정상 셔틀외교 복원과 2008년내 정상 상호방문 실현 등을 통해 한·일 정상간 교류를 활성화하고 분야별 고위급 교류의 제도화를 확대하는 한편, 양국간 갈등 현안의 사전 예방 및 관리를 통해 한·일 관계의 안정적 발전을 추구해 나가기로 합의했다고 외교부는 밝혔다.
경제면에서는 대일 무역적자 등 양국 경제현안을 논의할 수 있는 포괄적 협의체 구축, 한·일 FTA 교섭 재개 문제 등을 검토해 가기로 합의 한 동시에 대학생과 지방간 교류 등 인적교류의 확대, 문화 교류 증대 등을 합의 했다.
이어 북핵과 관련, 두나라 차관은 2007년 한해 동안 북한의 핵 불능화 조치에 있어서 가시적인 진전이 있었음을 평가하는 한편, 조속한 시기에 북한의 핵 프로그램 신고가 이루어져 2단계 조치가 완료될 수 있도록 계속 협력키로 하였다.
양 차관은 또한 동북아에 평화와 공동번영의 질서를 구축하기 위한 중국과의 협력관계 증진을 비롯하여 한·미·일 및 한·중·일 3국간 협의·협력 체제를 강화하는 한편 다양한 국제 현안에 있어서도 상호 협력해 가기로 하였디거 외교부는 덧붙였다.
Mr. Cho Jung-pyo, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, held the fifth round of the ROK-Japan ViceForeign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue with his Japanese counterpart Mr. Yachi Shotaro in Seoul on January 8.
The two Vice Ministers took this opportunity to exchange views on various issues of mutual interest includingways to promote the ROK-Japan relations, the North Korean issue, the situation in Northeast Asia and majorglobal issues and to discuss cooperative measures between the two countries.
According to Foreign Ministry,The two Vice Ministers agreed to further develop the ROK-Japan relations as a mature partnership basedon mutual respect and understanding with the launching of the new administration. As for concretemeasures, they agreed to make further efforts to promote summit-level exchanges, to institutionalize high-level exchanges and to expand economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the twocountries.
On top of that, They mutuallynoted that visible progress was made in 2007 in terms of the measures to disableNorth Korea's nuclear facilities, and agreed to continue cooperations for the efforts to complete the secondphase measures with North Korea's declaration of its nuclear program at an early date.
Meantimethey also agreed to promote cooperative ties with China to establish an order of peace and co-prosperityin Northeast Asia, to strengthen trilateral consultations and cooperations among the ROK, US and Japan andamong the ROK, China and Japan, and to make mutual cooperation for various global issues.
